November and Shakespeare

This months Subscriber Special is in honour of Shakespeare. Because on the 28th November 1582 18 year old William Shakespeare married 26 year old Anne Hathaway.

People don’t give a lot of time to Shakespeare’s wife, we don’t have a lot of information on his early years. I have often heard people commenting on Shakespeare’s  Last Will and Testament in which  he left her the ‘second best bed’, they take this to be a lack of affection. But as Bill Bryson says in his book ‘At Home’ the best bed in the house was always reserved for guests and so by leaving Anne the second best he was leaving her their marriage bed. So I would like to think that theirs was a love match. And you shall not persuade me different.

And so we are honouring Anne this month, and picking our Shakespeare Sonnet Pens as this months Subscriber Special.
